Payment Policy
Accepted Payment Methods
Nuve accepts a range of payment methods commonly used by shoppers in Italy. All payments are processed securely at checkout through Shopify Payments and trusted payment networks.
Credit & Debit Cards
Major card networks used across Italy are accepted. All card payments are processed by our PCI DSS compliant payment processor.
Digital Wallets
Fast, secure mobile first payment options. Apple Pay and Google Pay are available on compatible devices and browsers at checkout.
Available on supported mobile and desktop browsers. Requires a compatible device and an enabled wallet.
PayPal
Available to all customers checking out on nuve-shop.com. Pay with your PayPal balance, linked bank account, or card without sharing your card details with us.
A PayPal account is not required. Guest checkout via PayPal is available.
When is payment charged?
Payment is charged at checkout. Your card is charged when you place your order.
We do not place a temporary hold and charge you later. At the moment you confirm your order and click "Place Order," your selected payment method is charged for the full order amount, including VAT. No additional charges are applied afterwards unless you place a separate order. Your order confirmation email serves as your receipt.
Apple Pay & Google Pay
Available on mobile devices and on desktop browsers that support these wallets (Safari for Apple Pay; Chrome and Edge for Google Pay). Payment is authenticated directly on your device using Face ID, Touch ID, or your device PIN. Your card number is never shared with Nuve.
PayPal
You may check out as a PayPal guest using your credit or debit card without needing a PayPal account. PayPal buyer protection applies to eligible purchases per PayPal’s own policies.
Not accepted
We do not accept cryptocurrency, bank wire transfers, postal orders, cash on delivery, gift cards from other retailers, or buy now, pay later instalment services. If you would like to discuss an alternative payment arrangement, contact us at hello@nuve-shop.com.
Payment Security
Every transaction on nuve-shop.com is protected by industry leading security standards. We use Shopify Payments, and your card details are handled exclusively by this certified system. They never touch our own servers.
Security standards
Every transaction is encrypted, authenticated, and processed by a PCI DSS compliant payment provider.
Nuve does not process card data on its own infrastructure. All payment data is handled exclusively by Shopify Payments. We never see, transmit, or store your full card number, security code, or sensitive authentication data at any point during or after the transaction.
SSL / TLS Encryption
All pages on nuve-shop.com are served over HTTPS with TLS encryption. All data transmitted between your browser and our servers is encrypted end to end. Look for the padlock icon in your browser address bar.
PCI DSS Compliance
Shopify Payments is PCI DSS compliant, meeting the highest standard in the payment card industry. Every aspect of card data handling, storage, and transmission meets rigorous security requirements.
Strong Customer Authentication
As required under the EU Payment Services Directive (PSD2), eligible card transactions require Strong Customer Authentication (SCA), commonly shown as 3D Secure. You may be asked to verify your identity with your bank before a payment is approved.
Fraud Detection
Our payment processor uses real time fraud detection to screen every transaction. Unusual patterns, such as a mismatched billing address or an atypical order size, may trigger automatic review. Some orders may require additional verification before fulfilment.
No card data stored
We do not store your full card number, security code, or card expiry date after payment is processed. This is a strict requirement of PCI DSS compliance. If you save a card for future purchases, only a secure payment token provided by the processor is stored, never the raw card data.
3D Secure, how it works
3D Secure adds a second layer of authentication at checkout. Depending on your card, you may be redirected to your bank’s verification page to confirm the payment via a one time code, app notification, or biometric check. This step adds no cost to your order and is required by law for many EU transactions.
Currency & Pricing
Nuve currently serves customers in Italy. All prices on nuve-shop.com are displayed and charged in euros (EUR), and every price shown already includes Italian VAT (IVA) as required by Italian and EU consumer law.
Currency
Euro (EUR, €) is the only currency used on nuve-shop.com. Your card or PayPal account will be charged in EUR.
VAT (IVA)
All displayed prices are VAT inclusive. The price you see on a product page is the price you pay, with no VAT added later at checkout.
How prices are shown
Every price displayed on nuve-shop.com, from the product page through to the order summary and confirmation email, is shown in euros and includes applicable Italian VAT. There are no separate tax line items added at checkout. Shipping fees, where applicable, are shown separately and are also VAT inclusive.
Foreign card fees, bank issued charges
If your card is issued by a bank outside the eurozone, your bank may apply its own currency conversion or foreign transaction fee. This fee is charged by your bank, not by Nuve, and is outside our control. We recommend checking with your card issuer before placing an order if you are concerned about additional charges of this kind.
Billing & Authorization
Understanding how Nuve handles payment authorization helps set expectations for what you see on your bank statement between the time you order and when your order ships.
Authorization Holds
For some orders, Nuve pre-authorizes your card at checkout. A pre-authorization is a temporary hold that verifies your card is valid and has sufficient funds, without yet transferring the money.
During this period, the amount may show as “pending” on your bank or card statement for one to two business days. This is normal and does not mean you have already been charged.
When Capture Happens
Payment is fully captured (charged) when your order is confirmed at checkout
You receive an order confirmation email as your receipt
You receive a shipping confirmation email once your order dispatches, see the Shipping Policy
No further charges are applied to your card after checkout for the same order
What “pending” means on your statement
If you see a pending charge on your bank or card statement after placing an order, this is the pre-authorization hold. The funds are reserved to confirm payment capability. Once payment is captured, the pending charge becomes a completed transaction. If your order is cancelled before capture, the pending hold is released automatically on our side.
Order cancelled before shipping
If your order is cancelled before it ships, your authorization hold is released automatically.
We process cancellation releases as soon as the order is cancelled in our system. However, the time it takes for the hold to disappear from your statement is controlled by your bank, not by Nuve.
Hold release timeline
Authorization holds are typically released within three to five business days after cancellation. Some banks may take up to seven business days. Contact your bank if the hold has not cleared after seven days.
Already captured?
If your order was cancelled after payment had already been captured, you will receive a refund to your original payment method. Refund and return terms are detailed in our Returns & Refunds Policy.
Failed & Declined Payments
If your payment fails or is declined at checkout, your order will not be confirmed and no charge will be applied. Below are the most common reasons for a decline and the steps you can take to resolve it.
Common Reasons for Decline
Insufficient funds: your card or account does not have enough balance to cover the order amount
Card limit exceeded: the transaction exceeds your daily spend or single transaction limit
Bank declined: your bank blocked the transaction, often for security or fraud prevention reasons
Expired card: your card’s expiry date has passed
Incorrect card details: card number, expiry date, or security code entered incorrectly
Authentication not completed: the Strong Customer Authentication step was cancelled or timed out
What to Do
Double check your card number, expiry date, and security code, then retry checkout
Confirm your billing address matches the address registered with your card issuer exactly
Try a different card, Visa, Mastercard, Maestro, and American Express are all accepted
Use PayPal, Apple Pay, Google Pay, or Shop Pay as an alternative payment method
Contact your bank to ask whether they have blocked the transaction and request they approve it
If the problem persists, email us at hello@nuve-shop.com
Steps to resolve a failed payment
Re-check your card details
Go back to checkout and carefully re-enter your card number, expiry date, security code, and billing address. Small typos are the most common cause of payment failure. Ensure the billing address matches your card issuer’s records exactly.
Complete authentication if prompted
If your card issuer asks you to verify via a one time code, app notification, or biometric check, complete this step. Do not close the browser window while it is in progress. If the window timed out, return to checkout and try again.
Try a different payment method
If the same card continues to decline, switch to PayPal, Apple Pay, Google Pay, or Shop Pay, or use a different credit or debit card. PayPal allows guest checkout, so a PayPal account is not required.
Contact your bank
Some banks automatically flag first time purchases from a new merchant as suspicious. Call the number on the back of your card and ask your bank whether they have placed a block on the transaction. Request they approve nuve-shop.com as a trusted merchant.
Contact Nuve
If you have tried the steps above and are still unable to complete payment, contact us at hello@nuve-shop.com. Include the email address you used at checkout and a short description of the error you received.
Bank security triggers, important note
Heads up: some Italian banks automatically flag online purchases from a merchant they have not seen before, particularly for card not present transactions. If your card is declined and your balance is sufficient, your bank’s own fraud prevention system may have intervened. This is the most common reason for an unexplained decline. A quick call to your bank to confirm the transaction is authorised by you is usually enough to release the block. No issue exists on our end when this occurs.
Fraud Prevention
Nuve and Shopify Payments work together to protect customers from fraudulent transactions and unauthorised use of payment cards. This section explains the checks that may apply to your order.
Automated Screening
Every order placed on nuve-shop.com is automatically screened using real time fraud detection tools built into Shopify Payments. Factors such as billing and shipping mismatches, order size, and device signals may be assessed.
Manual Review
Orders flagged as higher risk may be held for manual review before fulfilment. This can add a short delay to processing. We may contact you by email to confirm details before proceeding.
Strong Customer Authentication (SCA)
As an EU merchant serving customers in Italy, Nuve applies Strong Customer Authentication for eligible card payments, in line with the revised Payment Services Directive (PSD2). This typically appears as a 3D Secure verification step with your card issuer and is one of the most effective tools against card fraud.
If we suspect fraud
If an order shows signs of fraudulent activity, such as a stolen card or an unauthorised transaction, we may cancel the order, refund the payment, and, where appropriate, report the matter to the relevant payment processor or authorities. We take this seriously to protect both our customers and our business.
Protecting your own account
Never share your card number, security code, or one time authentication codes with anyone claiming to represent Nuve. We will never ask for your full card details by phone or email. If you receive a suspicious message referencing Nuve or an order, please forward it to hello@nuve-shop.com before responding.
Legal & Compliance
Nuve is operated by COSMOS ECOM CONSULTING LLC, registered in the USA (Wyoming). Our payment processing complies with applicable Italian and EU law, including the Codice del Consumo (Italian Consumer Code) and the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).
Codice del Consumo
In line with the Codice del Consumo, Nuve discloses the full order total, including VAT and any shipping fees, before you confirm and pay. There is no negative option billing and no hidden recurring charges of any kind.
GDPR & Payment Data
Payment related data (such as card type and the last four digits of your card) is processed in accordance with the GDPR and is not sold to third parties. See our Privacy Policy for full details.
Strong Customer Authentication, mandatory under PSD2
Unlike some non-EU markets, Italy and the wider European Union require Strong Customer Authentication under PSD2 for most online card payments. This is why you may be asked to verify a payment with your bank via 3D Secure. It is a legal requirement, not an optional Nuve feature, and it adds no cost to your purchase.
Chargebacks & Disputes
If you believe a charge is incorrect or unauthorised, please contact us at hello@nuve-shop.com before initiating a chargeback with your bank. We keep order documentation including payment confirmations and shipping records, and most billing disputes can be resolved quickly and directly. A chargeback process can take longer and may affect your standing with your card issuer.
Payment data collection disclosure
What payment data we collect and why.
When you place an order, our payment processor collects the data necessary to complete the transaction. Nuve receives only a limited, non-sensitive summary of the transaction, not your full card details.
What we receive
Card type (for example, Visa), the last four digits of your card number, payment status (approved or declined), transaction ID, and amount. This is used to fulfil your order and for customer support.
What we never receive
Your full card number, security code, or card PIN. These are handled entirely by Shopify Payments. Nuve’s systems never have access to your full card data at any point.
Data retention: transaction records (order amount, card type, last four digits, payment status) are retained for accounting, fraud prevention, and legal compliance purposes in accordance with our Privacy Policy and applicable Italian record keeping requirements. See also our Terms of Service and Legal Notice.
